Teflon tape is made from a very tightly woven fiberglass cloth that has been coated with PTFE/Teflon(R) (polytetrafluoroethylene) - based fluoropolymer resin and has a high temperature adhesive applied to one side. The combination of PTFE/Teflon(R) and its well known properties, the excellent strength and dimensional stability of the fiberglass, and a high temperature range of the adhesive system results in a product appropriate for use in a variety of high temperature and demanding applications.
Teflon tape can be used by skaters (roller derby etc) on their pads to prevent scratching the floors of the venues they train at. Unlkie adhesive tape which can grab when you fall making it dangerous, teflon allows you to slide when you fall.
